Baldness

Slow the loss first, restore density second: the two halves are planned together, from the outset.

Managing baldness at the Saint-Rémy-de-Provence practice

Baldness rarely arrives all at once. The temples recede, the crown thins, the parting widens, and you find yourself avoiding certain photographs or certain lighting.

Most often this is androgenetic alopecia: an inherited sensitivity of the follicles to androgen hormones. Under their influence the hair grows finer with each cycle, grows for less time, then stops growing back.

A transplant does not put an end to baldness. It redistributes hair; it does not stop the process that makes the rest fall. Without accompanying treatment, the transplanted area can end up surrounded by an area that goes on thinning. This is why the two halves are planned together, from the outset.

Available Techniques

Slowing the loss, before thinking about restoring density

An area that has gone bare cannot be brought back; the hair still in place, on the other hand, can be defended. That is the purpose of medical treatments, scalp mesotherapy and growth-factor injections, which aim to slow the process and support the follicles still active.

This stage is not incidental: it determines how stable the result will be afterwards.

Restoring density by transplant

A transplant rests on one simple fact: the hair of the crown, at the back and sides of the head, is genetically programmed not to fall. Moved to the bare areas, it keeps that property.

The practice uses the FUE and DHI techniques. Follicles are taken one by one from the donor area, then reimplanted with attention to density, direction and the angle of growth — it is this work of orientation that gives the result its natural character.

The consultation is where we assess the stage of the baldness and the quality of the donor area, and say whether the time has come to transplant or whether it is better to stabilise first.
